Menu Plan, Week of January 24

So this is another week of the "Eat from the Pantry" challenge. I have not been to the store in a couple of weeks, except for bread and milk. I will have to run in the next day or two to get milk, bread and some produce, but aside from that, if I run out of something, I am simply adding it to the list.

It hasn't been too bad, I have been using up some odds and ends in the freezer. For instance, I had a half pack of bacon in there, which I am going to use up in a new soup recipe.

Here is what is in store for us this week:

Breakfastss: waffles, lazy granola, pumpkin bread, toast, yogert

Lunch: buttered noodles, soup, leftovers, sandwiches

Dinners: Cincinnati Style chili, bacon bean soup(new recipe) and honey wheat bread, ham with green beans and potatoes, Roz's spaghetti and homemade breadsticks, pizza casserole, leftovers

We have our usual this week, Brownies, choir and basketball practice. So nothing out of the ordinary.

I am taking my little man to the E-N-T doctor, I am hoping that our days of constant ear infections will be over soon. Not to mention, he is having a blood test to find out what, if anything he is allergic to, food wise. I have a serious suspicion that he is allergic to soy. He vomits everytime he eats soy.

  1. Ear infections are the worst. We are dealing with them again for my 7 year old. He has already had 3 sets of tubes and I thought we were growing out of them. But 4 infections in the last 5 months prove otherwise. Good luck! And btw, your little man is about the cutest I have ever seen.

  2. My little boy had TONS of ear infections and I did some research to find things that might help. Two things seemed to work for us that I wouldn't have thought of on my own: cutting out dairy, which made him more mucousy and drippy, and chiropractic care. We have a family chiropractor that my husband has gone to for 20 years, and we trust him; he suggested that by adjusting the neck and head, the tubes can be cleared, and the liquid that builds up and gets infected has a way to drain. When he seems to be getting an ear infection, we cut off dairy and take him to the chiropractor. He hasn't needed tubes or antibiotics in almost two years now! (I'm the daughter of a nurse and a believer in Western medicine, not one to usually seek out alternative medicine, but it's worked for us!)

There is also a thing called EarCheck where you can check for an infection at home. We have gotten a lot of use out of ours!

  3. Jennifer--thanks, I think he is cute too, but I am partial!

The Saved Quarter--he already gets no dairy, due to believed food allergies, we find out next week if he truly does. He is on a hypoallergenic formula. We have a history of food allergies. As for the chiropractor, it is funny you mention that. My husband and I both see a chiropractor and he has mentioned that he treats kids with ear infections. When I was there last week I saw a 10 month old there. I just am leary about him working on my baby. It works for me and my husband though. Thanks for the advice!
